Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, according to American standards, in the class of child prodigies. For a child with Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and family, these were very natural traits. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin the capital of Ireland, on 17 August 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also had shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer club. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a fan of rough and sporting games in her youth and excelled at sports. Her natural ability to perform was a perfect complement to her interest in sport. This is why she received almost all of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances in her country of birth. At the age of 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her passion for classical theatre and opera singing.
